Apple & Carrot Frozen Dog Ice Cream Treat
This post shows you the Apple & Carrot Frozen Dog Ice Cream recipe, perfect for dogs with a sensitive stomach, and a gentle frozen treat that will keep your dog cool this summer!

This dog ice cream recipe is so simple, but it feels like comfort food for dogs.
I made it with cooked apple and carrot, so it’s easy to digest and naturally sweet. It’s also full of fiber and vitamins.
I love making this for Ricco when I want to give him something wholesome and hydrating.
And he adores this one! But I have to warn you! Turmeric and carrots can make a mess out of your floors, carpets, or couch…. so be careful where you feed your dog.
My couch was a mess after this recipe, but we managed to clean it somehow (just grab dishwashing detergent ASAP and rub the fabric with a sponge like your life depends on it!).

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons cooked apple puree (1/4 apple, peeled, no seeds or skin)
- 1 small cooked carrot, mashed
- 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon olive oil, extra virgin, cold-pressed
- ⅛ teaspoon turmeric

Instructions
- Cook the apple for 10 minutes until soft.
- At the same time, start cooking the carrot until it’s soft enough to mash it with a fork. It takes about 20 minutes for carrots to fully cook.
- Cool them under cold water.
- Mash the cooked apple and carrot with a fork and mix in a bowl.
- Add the Greek yogurt, olive oil, and turmeric.
- Mix well with a spoon into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
- Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Serving Size
This recipe makes about 10 small frozen treats, depending on your mold size. I usually give Ricco two a day.
Depending on your dog’s size, you can give them more! You know what feels good for them.
Even though these ingredients are super healthy and mild on the stomach, I avoid giving my dog too much as he tends to have diarrhea when he eats a lot of fruit and natural sweets. So, as I said, you know your dog well, so give them more frozen treats if they feel good!
Another problem with my dog is that he goes absolutely bonkers for this particular recipe, so that’s another reason to limit the servings! Otherwise, he would eat everything in one sitting.

Storage
Freeze in silicone molds, then pop out and store in a freezer-safe container or bag. These will last for about 3 weeks in the freezer.
Dog Inspector Tips
- This recipe is great with cooked sweet potato or cooked pumpkin! You can easily replace carrots with any of these two.
- If your dog doesn’t eat dairy, you can make this with coconut yogurt but double-check the label so you’re sure it doesn’t have any funky additives and artificial sweeteners.
- You can make this one with turmeric and cinnamon or just one of these! Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties and is a strong antioxidant.

Why I Love It
This is a healthy and nourishing frozen dog treat that’s super easy to make and doesn’t require any advanced planning.
I usually buy carrots and apples every week, and somehow, we always have Greek yogurt in the fridge, so this is something I can make any time.
This recipe doesn’t have peanut butter, as I know many people are looking for dog ice cream recipes without peanut butter, so you can make this one! My dog is so picky with his treats, but he literally adores this one!
Why this recipe is healthy for dogs:
- Cooked Apple – Full of fiber and antioxidants. Good for the stomach, low in calories, and naturally sweet.
- Cooked Carrot – High in beta-carotene and great for the skin, eyes, and immune system.
- Greek Yogurt – An amazing source of probiotics and protein. Good for the gut microbiome, stomach health, and calcium.
- Olive Oil – polyphenols in olive oil are one the strongest anti-inflammatory compounds in the world!
- Turmeric – Full of anti-inflammatory benefits and great for joint health.
Health Benefits of this Apple and Carrot Frozen Dog Ice Cream
If you’ve read Dog Inspector, you know that I’m all about healthy ingredients and zero additives. When I make a recipe, I try my best to include only whole foods and combine them in a tasty mixture with maximum health benefits.
This ice cream is especially cool as it has anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s all due to turmeric!
Turmeric for Dogs: A Natural Boost for Joint Health
Turmeric is a natural spice made from turmeric root, and it’s super popular in Asian cuisine. I use it with meat, soups, stews, and grilled veggies.
It’s absolutely safe for dogs and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties since it contains a compound called curcumin. Curcumin reduces inflammation and eases joint pain. That’s why this ice cream is perfect for senior dogs!
Olive Oil for Dogs: A Simple Way to Support Skin, Coat, and Brain Health
I added a small amount of olive oil to this ice cream, honestly, because it makes this frozen treat so creamy! And because I wanted to boost the nutrient score of this simple recipe.
Olive oil is a great source of healthy fats that can benefit your dog in more ways than one. It’s rich in omega-3, helps support a shiny coat, reduces dry skin, and keeps your dog’s joints and brain healthy.
