This post shows you the Homemade Strawberry Dog Ice Cream recipe without peanut butter.

I know that many dog owners are looking for dog ice cream recipes with no peanut butter, and I have just the right thing for you!

I made a refreshing frozen dog treat that’s light and fruity and perfect for hot summer days or picnics! This strawberry dog ice cream is a fun little recipe and, honestly, super easy to make as it only has three ingredients!

You probably have all of these in your fridge: strawberries, bananas, and Greek yogurt. Or, at least, freezer, as you can also use frozen strawberries or any other berry fruit like blueberries and raspberries.

I made this one, especially for days when I want something pink and pretty or when Ricco has already had enough peanut butter for the week.

I also love that it only takes a couple of minutes to prep, and the freezer does the rest!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup fresh or frozen strawberries (about 5 large strawberries)
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • ½ banana, sliced

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries, remove the stems, and cut them into tiny pieces. If you’re using frozen strawberries, let them thaw for a few minutes so you can cut them or mash them.
  2. Mash the banana (it’s easier if you slice it first), and then add Greek yogurt. Mix everything with a fork.
  3. Add the strawberries and mix everything until smooth. You can add everything to a blender, but we prefer to actually chew on strawberries as they feel so fine!
  4. Spoon the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
  5. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
  6. Pop-out a treat or two and serve to your dog when it’s time for something cool!

Serving Size

This recipe makes about 6–8 small dog ice cream treats, depending on the size of your mold. I usually give Ricco just one after a long walk or on a super hot day.

If this is your dog’s first time trying strawberries or frozen treats, give them one treat and see how they respond. Some dogs can’t digest yogurt, and some have issues with frozen treats (they end up having runny poo), so it’s best you check them first before you start indulging in this ice cream!

Storage

Keep the frozen dog ice cream treats in a silicone mold, or pop them out and keep them in a zip bag once they’re fully frozen. They will last about 3 weeks in the freezer.

If your dog doesn’t like them for some reason, you can eat them guilt-free! They are so good and so healthy.

Dog Inspector Tips

  • Most dogs can tolerate dairy just fine, but if your dog can’t handle yogurt, then it’s best you use coconut yogurt or almond milk yogurt with probiotics!
  • You don’t have to use molds for this recipe. You can spread everything on a LickiMat or stuff your dog’s Kong with this!
  • If you give them treats from the molds, pay special attention to how they eat them! My silly dog likes to take them to the couch, and he makes a mess everywhere.

Why I Love It

This is such a happy little recipe. It’s pink, it’s pretty, and it smells amazing. I make these when strawberries are in season and when I want something fresh and zesty!

Why this dog ice cream recipe is healthy for dogs:

  • Strawberries – are a good source of vitamins and fiber, and like other berries, they are rich in antioxidants. They support your dog’s gut and immune system.
  • Bananas – full of potassium; bananas are great for digestion. They are also a great source of energy, and they make frozen dog treats super creamy!
  • Greek Yogurt – my favorite source of probiotics and calcium! It’s great for your dog’s gut health and is a really good source of protein.

You can use any type of berry for this recipe! You can even use a berry mix. Blueberries and raspberries are a great option, but any type of berries is amazing for dogs! Along with vitamins and fiber, there are so many health benefits of berries for dogs, so if you don’t want to miss them, make sure to check out this guide I wrote!
